Roberto Bautista Agut v Andy Murray Head to Head

The head-to-head between Bautista Agut and Murray is tied at 3-3, but it is the Spaniard who has won in each of their last three meetings including the 2019 Australian Open fisrt-round match.

Bautista Agut Ends Holt’s Run

Brandon Holt was a man on fire at this year’s Australian Open. Having navigated the qualifying rounds, he had the fortune of playing a fellow qualifier in the first round and defeated Aleksandar Vukic in five sets to win his second main draw match at this level.

But not many people fancied his chances of securing his biggest win at Grand Slam level when he met Roberto Bautista Agut. But the American defied the odds and produced some clinical ball striking to take a shock two-sets-to-love lead.

However, it didn’t take Bautista Agut long to find his range and he began to constantly attack with purpose. Holt, who earlier on fired winners at will, was now missing consistently.

Bautista Agut completed the comeback to win 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-2 and advanced into the third round. Overall, the Spaniard tallied 43 winners to 27 unforced errors and landed 71% of his first serves.

Remarkable Murray Comeback Ousts Kokkinakis

Perhaps the most engrossing battle at this year’s Australian Open or any Grand Slam for that matter was witnessed on Thursday, as Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokknakis battled for nearly six hours.

In the end, the two players traded hellfire from the baseline and were left in a pool of sweat and with tired limbs barely able to walk, but the adoration and appreciation of the crowd were telling. The match lasted well into the early morning hours in Melbourne.

Murray won a classic, coming from two-sets-to-love down to defeat his younger and fitter opponent, even with a surgically repaired hip, in five brutal, punishing sets.

The score read 4-6 6-7 7-6 6-3 7-5, Murray holding off Kokkinakis who hammered 37 aces and appeared in cruise control at one point. But Murray secured the decisive break deep in the fifth set to clinch the biggest win in his second coming to tennis.

Bautista Agut v Murray Prediction and Tip

Will Murray have enough in the tank for another marathon? It will be fascinating to see. The former World No. 1 was written off even before striking a ball in his match against Matteo Berrettini. But yet, he finds himself in the third round here for the first time since 2017. In as much as he will be competitive, the physical toll of playing back-to-back five-setters might just outweigh his chances of progressing further.
