Azarenka Too Good for Keys
For the second year in a row, Victoria Azarenka advanced into the fourth round of the Australian Open. The former double champion at Melbourne Park, kept her unbeaten streak over Madison Keys intact, after overcoming the American in three sets.
Unlike their three previous meetings, Azarenka dropped the first set 6-1 against the power-hitting Keys. She had to do something she had not experienced before in this rivalry, while simultaneously having to become the first woman to defeat the American in 2023.
Azarenka fought back to take the second set, as she read Keys’ game and began to take charge of the rallies by anticipating the 10th seed’s next move.
Keys was also an unforced error machine. Having tallied just eight UEs in the first set, the American piled up a combined 31 unforced errors in the second and third sets. Azarenka prevailed in a topsyturvy third-round match 1-6 6-2 6-1.
She is the active former champion of the Australian Open still alive and kicking in the draw.

Lin Delivers Late-Night Blow At Sakkari
Zhu Lin scored the first Top 10 win of her career, beating Greece’s No. 1 Maria Sakkari in a late-night thriller inside Margaret Court Arena.
Lin won 7-6 1-6 6-4 and reached the second week of the Australian Open against all the odds. At 28, it felt like the Chinese was running out of time for a breakthrough moment at Grand Slam level.
Lin’s career had been blighted by a series of never-ending injuries that almost forced her to hang up her racket. But a little pep talk with friends and family has motivated the World No. 87 to give tennis a second try.
On Friday night in Melbourne, Lin witnessed a full-circle moment as she upset Maria Sakkari, firing 29 winners and breaking the sixth seed’s serve five times.
Sakkari’s error-strewn game meant that she could not contain Lin’s dextrous baseline game. The Greek star posted an unhealthy 52 unforced errors in the match.
