Andrey Rublev v Holger Rune Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Paris Masters which Rune had won in straight sets on his way to winning his maiden Masters 1000 title.

Rublev Bosses Evans with Ease

For the third time in four years, Rublev reached the fourth round of this tournament and he did so with consummate ease. In a match where Rublev was at his clinical best in all the departments of the game, he won 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in a mere two hours and 11 minutes.

There was not much that Rublev didn’t do well in his third round win.

He won 80% of his first serve points, broke his opponent four times from the 15 chances he got and saved all four of the break-points he faced. Most stunningly, Rublev hit 60 winners and 10 aces, as compared to 20 and 3 respectively from his opponent and that made a big difference to the scoreline.

Rublev, who had earlier not started the season off too well with back to back opening losses in the two Adelaide tournaments, now faces his first real test in the form of Rune.

The way he played against Evans though, he will prove to be quite a handful for most opponents let alone a world number 10.

Rune Makes it Three Straight-Setters in a Row

For a player who finished the previous season with a Paris Masters title under his belt, it is no surprise he has started off the manner he has at this year’s Australian Open. Sure Rune did not go beyond the first round at Adelaide but since then, all his wins have come in straight sets.

Rune started off with wins over Filip Krajinovic and Maxime Cressy before disposing off Ugo Humbert in the third round to enter a stage of a Grand Slam he has never done before in a non-clay major.

Yep, Rune has been brought up on clay and red dirt seems to be the kind of surface he has enjoyed in the past but in recent times we have seen a change in his approach. He has started winning more matches in hardcourt tournaments and a two hour-eight minutes victory over Humbert was a testimony to that.

The Danish number one won 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (5) in a match that saw him rely heavily on his first serves which saw him grab 50 of the 61 points on offer. Rune also won 13 of the 15 points at the net, which proved to be another difference between the two players.

Come the fourth round, Rune will have a greater challenge but having already beaten Rublev in the past and having started off so beautifully here, the Dane will know he has a good chance here.

Rublev v Rune Prediction and Tips

This could be a gritty battle that sees more than three, possibly even five sets in the encounter. Rune could hold the edge here.
