JJ Wolf v Ben Shelton Head to Head
This is an all-American battle that will be played for the first time.

Wolf Brushes Mmoh Aside
Wolf has been in and around the circuit playing at the highest level having first made the qualifiers of a Grand Slam in 2017. Since then, his best performance came at the 2020 US Open where he had reached the third round which was also the first time he won a round at a major.
A little over two years on, Wolf has gone a round further by beating Michael Mmoh in the third round here at the Australian Open and doing that in style too.
The world number 67 – who can be expected to break into the top 50 when the new rankings are released – was on court for a mere two hours and five minutes as he overturned a first set service break to win 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. He ensured he got the better of Mmoh’s serve on six separate occasions.
Where he scored over his opponent was despite having a similar number of unforced errors, the American hit 25 more winners in the encounter.
This follows victories over Jordan Thompson and Diego Schwartzman in the first two rounds and Wolf will now be up against an opponent lower than him again.

Shelton Gets the Better of Popyrin
Shelton’s draw has been undoubtedly made easier by the ousters of Miomir Kecmanovic and Taylor Fritz but as an 89th-ranked player, he still has had to go out there and win his matches.
And he has done those rather nicely, sending out the pre-match favourite Alexei Popyrin in straight sets to set this fourth round matchup with Wolf.
The world number 89 – his career-best ranking – was a 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-4 winner over Popyrin, needing a touch over two hours to get there. Slamming 12 aces, Shelton was also helped nicely by his 34 winners which in turn aided him to save all the four break-points he faced in the encounter.
He got eight chances to break his opponent’s serve, converting one apiece in sets one and three.
Interestingly, Shelton had been knocked out of the qualifiers at the Adelaide International and then made round two in Auckland the following week. He has gone way past his wildest imagination here and has a chance to set a really high barrier for himself.
Wolf v Shelton Prediction and Tips
Wolf has been in top form and while his opponent hasn’t done too badly for himself, he can be expected to clinch this. Might drop a set though.
