Jessica Pegula v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and it’s 2-2 on head to head. The last of these encounters came at the 2022 Guadalajara Open where Pegula had won in straight sets.

Pegula Storms Past Krejcikova

Barbora Krejcikova has done exceptionally well in the past at the Australian Open and for a while it looked like she had a hold on her fourth round match against Pegula.

Both players went on serve till the sixth game and even when Krejcikova lost her serve in the next game, she was always in the encounter as she broke in the 10th game when the American was on a lookout for the set.

However, Pegula’s pedigree proved to be too much to handle for the Czech who lost her serve yet again in the 11th game despite saving four break-points.

Both players dropped their serves to begin with but from there on it was all one-way traffic.

Pegula broke her opponent two more times and then converted her second match-point to clinch a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

This follows straight-set wins for Pegula in the first three rounds too – she has already beaten Jacqueline Cristian, Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Marta Kostyuk for the loss of just 11 games spread across that.

She now faces a former Australian Open champion and while it could be tricky encounter, Pegula looks like she has the artillery to get better of her opponent.

Azarenka Stretched by Lin

Azarenka recorded her sixth win of the season but not before the Chinese player Zhu Lin stretched her to a fighting three-setter.

The former Australian Open winner came back from a set down to register a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory in a match that lasted two hours and 42 minutes.

Having beaten Sofia Kenin and Madison Keys in two of the previous rounds, there was no shortage of confidence for Azarenka but after dropping her serve twice and losing the first set, she had her backs to the wall.

Azarenka stormed back with back to back breaks in the second set and wrapped it up in double-quick time to level the score.

The third set had a strange start to it as neither player was able to hold their serve for a whopping six games. This was followed by two holds to love before Azarenka broke Lin again to go 5-4 up. And while she faced another couple of break-points in the next game as she served for the match, Azarenka held on to it and clinched it.

She will have to do a lot better than this against the world number three.

Pegula v Azarenka Prediction and Tips

Azarenka has the experience but Pegula’s form has been too good for her to be tested by her opponent, and she should cruise through here. Might even be a straight-set encounter.
