Jelena Ostapenko v Elena Rybakina Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between Ostapenko and Rybakina before this and both were won by the Latvian player. These came at the 2019 Linz Open and 2021 WTA Eastbourne.

Ostapenko Ends Gauff’s Title Hopes
Cori Gauff was one of the top three favourites heading into this year’s Australian Open and as she went through the draw to reach the fourth round, she looked more and more confident of going the distance. And that’s when she met Ostapenko.
Now, lest one forgets, Ostapenko is a former Grand Slam champion herself.
True, she hasn’t played as well as she had when she won that title way back in 2017 but the Latvian player has still remained within touching distance of the top 20. And at times she has proved to be quite a handful for top 10 players as well, having registered 17 wins over them including three as recently as last year.
She was one of those few players who defeated Iga Swiatek last season and becomes the first player in 2023 to have won against Gauff.
Gauff, who was a whopping favourite to make it to the last eight with odds of 1/2 for her win, went down in straight sets to feisty Ostapenko, the match lasting an hour and 34 minutes.
This was after Ostapenko fell an early break down but then proceeded to break her opponent three times in the match to win it 7-5, 6-3.
Ostapenko’s clinical nature came to the fore as she converted both her break-points as opposed to the seven she saved.

Rybakina Cracks the Swiatek Code
Much like Ostapenko, Rybakina had also gone into her fourth round encounter as an underdog with the world number one Iga Swiatek starting out a 1/4 odds on favourite to grab it.
And like Ostapenko, the former Grand Slam winner did not pay too much heed to those odds as she ran away with the contest in straight sets. In a match lasting an hour and 30 minutes, Rybakina won 6-4, 6-4.
The first set saw Rybakina break Swiatek in the very first game and then lose her own serve in the fourth. The decisive break, however, came in the seventh game where Rybakina earned herself one break-point and converted it with ease.
In the second, it was Swiatek who took the early lead as she served to make it 4-1. Rybakina broke her to love, and then after missing two break-points in the ninth game, broke her off the third to go 5-4 up.
As if to prove her dominance, Rybakina then served out the match to love and advanced to the last eight.
Rybakina had already had some excellent results go her way in the tournament before this, with wins over the upcoming Elisabetta Cocciaretto, young talent Kaja Juvan and previous runner-up Danielle Collins under her belt.
Can she now take that step further towards a shocking second Grand Slam win?
Ostapenko v Rybakina Prediction and Tips
There won’t be much to choose between these two players and we reckon this could into a third set. Rybakina with a slight edge.
