Who is Playing at the 2023 WTA Thailand Open?
The 2023 WTA Thailand Open will boast a 32-woman field. In a big blow to the tournament organizers, defending champion Magda Linette will not be taking part in this year’s edition. Following her Australian Open exploits, Linette is taking rest time before getting back into action.
Linette has since been replaced in the draw by Sweden’s Mirjam Bjorklund. One of the four wild cards available has been granted to 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu who is making her first visit to Thailand.
The Canadian will therefore be the top seed at the event and is joined by World No. 47 Yulia Putintseva in making up the Top 50 players in the draw. Six names from the qualifying draw will complete the field.

Our WTA Thailand Open 2023 Predictions & Picks
There are only two Top 50 players in the draw at the 2023 Thailand Open, opening up the door for a potential first-time WTA titlist in Hua Hin.
Last year, China’s Xiyu Wang had a breakthrough run on the WTA Tour. The 21-year-old defeated some high-profile names such as Maria Sakkari, Victoria Azarenka, and Donna Vekic. She also reached two WTA semifinals. Although she hasn’t started 2023 in a similarly rich vein of form to last year, be on the lookout for the young lefty to make amends in Thailand.
Linda Fruhvirtova is seeded at No. 8. The precociously talented young Czech had a great Australian summer, reaching the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time at the Australian Open. Fruhvirotva has already bagged one WTA title, last year in Chennai, so she knows what it takes to succeed at this low-key tournament.
The usual suspects such as Andreescu, Putintseva, and Marta Kostyuk will be hard to beat. Andreescu is the top seed and has a point to prove after three years in the wilderness. She did suffer a shocking loss at the Australian Open to Cristina Bucsa, but we reckon she will be motivated to end her title drought.
