Last year’s champion Shuai Zhang, Alize Cornet, Petra Martic and Anastasia Potapova make up the Top-50 contingent in the draw.
American young gun Alycia Parks will be keen to put her recent disappointment of missing out on the main draw a spot in Melbourne. She recently broke the world’s Top 80.
Three of the four wild card entrants have been confirmed, while six qualifiers will be determined by Sunday evening.

Our WTA Lyon Open 2023 Predictions & Picks
There will be plenty of intriguing matches as early as the first round. Many WTA players at the bottom end of the Top 100 have improved significantly from the past year, so do not be surprised to see so many upsets in the early rounds.
As mentioned at the top of the article, 22-year-old American Alycia Parks is a player to watch in 2023. Parks ended 2022 with two successive titles on indoor hard courts, including one at Angers, France. She also broke the WTA’s Top 100 as a result and was unfortunate to miss out on automatic entry at the Australian Open. She is certainly a name that could surprise in Lyon.
Russia’s Anna Blinkova has made huge strides of late. She won her second WTA title from qualifying in Cluj-Napoca last year. And she does have a big game to succeed in these conditions.
Caroline Garcia is the red-hot favorite. The Lyon Open is itching to crown a home champion. Since its inception in 2020, it’s been a non-French player who has won this tournament and Garcia should be heavily favored to end that sequence.
German big hitter Jule Niemeier was unfortunate to draw the short straw in Melbourne. She lost to Iga Swiatek in the first round of the Australian Open. However, Niemeier played extremely well and on a different day could have pushed the Pole to three sets. Expect the 23-year-old to be a perennial danger in Lyon.
