Petra Martic v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head
There have been eight previous meetings between the two and Martic leads 6-2. In hardcourt competitions, it’s 3-2 for Martic, with their last meetings having come on the clay courts of Rome where Martic had won in straight sets.

After having shown signs of spark in 2022, Martic hasn’t quite started things off this season on the kind of note that should have liked.
Playing for Croatia in the United Cup, Martic needed three sets to overcome Nadia Podoroska in her opener but then lost her next two singles matches. She fell in straight sets to both, Caroline Garcia and Maria Sakkari as Croatia went out in the Host City Finals.
She started off as a favourite in her opener against Viktorija Golubic, and won it 6-3, 6-4 but then again failed to garner any momentum as Shuai Zhang crashed her party in the second round.
This is despite Martic going into the encounter as a favourite, but Zhang cruised through to a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Now coming up against the French wildcard, Martic will hope she can garner a rare victory this season.

Mladenovic Free-falling on the WTA Charts
Mladenovic was ranked as high as 10th in the world on the singles charts in 2018. Since then, her performances have gradually deteriorated and with that, so has her ranking.
In 2019, the Frenchwoman ended the year ranked 39th, having recovered from a season-low of 68th. Lack of tennis in 2020 did not help as she finished on 50th when the year ended and by end of the 2021, Mladenovic was down to 86th on the WTA charts.
Lack of results in 2022 meant Mladenovic had capitulated to outside the top 100 for the first time since 2014. Today, after failing to qualify for the Australian Open, Mladenovic will be ranked outside the top 140, forcing her to make it through as a wildcard.
And now taking on the fourth seed in this opener, she will have a task on her hands.
