Nuria Parrizas Diaz v Anna Bondar Head to Head

Their only previous WTA meeting came last season at the Istanbul Open where Bondar won in straight sets. It was played on clay.

There have been two other matches on the ITF circuit too between these players where both have won one apiece. Parrizas-Diaz clinched their only match in a hardcourt competition which came in the final of a South African ITF tournament in 2021.

Parrizas Diaz Makes Solid Start to the Season

She was once ranked 45th in the world but Parrizas Diaz had shown exemplary form to climb up that high in 2022.

The seeds of that form had been sown the previous year where Parrizas Diaz had won a couple of WTA tournaments and when she made the third round at Australian Open and then a semifinal in Monterrey, she had managed to break into the top 50.

Unfortunately for her, Parrizas Diaz’s form tapered off after that. She won a total of only 11 more main draw matches at the highest level last season and as a result of that fell to outside the top 70.

This season has seen Parrizas Diaz start things off solidly but she would like to do a lot better. A third round appearance at the Australian Open is good showing but then again, defeats to Katie Swan at the United Cup and Yulia Putintseva in Hobart don’t augur too well if she wants to come close to her best ranking again.

Can she start things off here with a win?

Bondar’s Struggled in 2023 So Far

Bondar is not quite known for her performances in hardcourt competitions, having won 11 of her 13 ITF tournaments on clay. And a glimpse of that erratic hardcourt showing has been on display in 2023 too.

The Hungarian 25-year-old lost in the qualifiers at both, the Adelaide International 1 and Adelaide International 2 – falling to Anhelina Kalinina and Kaia Kanepi – before finally winning her first match of the year at the Australian Open.

Even there, going up against Ana Bogdan, Bondar was a 2/1 underdog but managed to carve out a victory against the run of play.

She followed that up with a fighting loss to Jelena Ostapenko after that and now coming up against a player way better qualified to handle hardcourt surfaces, Bondar will have her work cut out.

Parrizas Diaz v Bondar Prediction and Tip

Parrizas Diaz, at 1/2, sounds like a healthy bet to go for to win this one. Could even do that in straight sets.
