Jasmine Paolini v Rebeka Masarova Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Paolini; she beat Masarova in the 2022 ITF Les Franqueses Del Valles in three sets.

Paolini Struggling with Form

Jasmine Paolini has endured a harrowing start to the season and seeks redemption on the hard courts in Lyon.

The Italian competed in three tournaments this month and walked away with a record of 1-3. In Adelaide 1, she lost to Anna Bondar in three sets – two going to tiebreaks. In fact, Paolini squandered two match points in that match – one in each of the two sets.

Next was Hobart International, where she surpassed Patricia Maria Tig but lost to Elisabetta Cocciaretto 2-6, 1-6. Lastly, she played in the Aus Open, where she was beaten by Liudmila Samsonova 2-6, 4-6.

Having made her top-50 debut last season, Paolini has found it hard to keep herself afloat with some consistency. Her record for the year was 30-25, closing the season positively with consecutive finals in WTA Cluj-Napoca (loss to Anna Blinkova) and ITF Les Franqueses Del Valles (win over Kateryna Baindl).

Jasmine made it to the quarters the last time she was in Lyon. How far will she go this time?

Masarova Clears the Qualifiers

With wins over Amandine Hesse and Kaja Juvan, Rebeka Masarova of Spain has made it past the qualifiers in Lyon.

Currently ranked World No. 100, the 23-year-old is bracing for a breakthrough season. She fired warning shots in Auckland, where, from the prelims, she made it all the way to the final.

That dream run saw Masarova beat Sara Errani, Sloane Stephens, Blinkova, Karolina Muchova, and Ysaline Bonaventure. She was finally dismissed by Coco Gauff.

However, Masarova failed to build on that newly-found momentum as she fell in the qualifying rounds of the Melbourne Slam to Lucrezia Stefani in three sets.

Rebeka closed last season at 34-26 with titles from ITF Hamburg singles and Valencia Challenger doubles. She was also the finalist in Bastad 125.

Paolini v Masarova Prediction and Tip

The fact that Masarova is the odds-on favourite at 4/6 says a lot. Paolini is still fairly more experience and has played more games in top-tier events. That should account for something, so punters may want to back the Italian from a value-bet perspective. On the whole, we can expect this to be a long affair.
