Camila Osorio v Jule Niemeier Head to Head

While they have never faced off at the highest level, these two did play a match in the qualifiers of an ITF tournament in 2019 which Niemeier won in straight sets. It was held on clay.

Osorio Casts Cornet to the Corner

Having kick-started her season at the Australian Open, Osorio won her second match of the season when she defeated Alize Cornet in the opening round here.

What makes this a special win for Osorio is it was her first ever on indoor courts at the highest level – having played only four matches otherwise on that surface anyway.

Osorio needed three sets as she clinched a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win over the 1/2 favourite Cornet to march into round two, having earlier done the same at the Australian Open too.

There, she had had to face Iga Swiatek in round two; here it’s a 71st-ranked opponent against whom she will have a better chance of doubling her career win count indoors. Some better serving might help, having faced 10 break-points and being broken three times in the Cornet match.

Niemeier Finally Registers a Win

Such has been Niemeier’s form this season that even facing the 141st-ranked Olga Danilovic in the first round, she was only a 3/5 favourite to come through. And it wasn’t the easiest opening round wins either.

Niemeier, who had played and lost four matches this season coming to the Lyon Open, finally got on to the wins board when he carved out a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 victory over her Serbian opponent.

In a match lasting two hours and nine minutes, Niemeier lost her serve four times – which is the same number she broke her opponent too – but it was the decisive one in the sixth game of the final set that helped her scrape through.

She missed a couple of match-points on her opponent’s serve before clinching it off her own in the ninth game of the final set.

Can she ward off the Osorio threat now?

Osorio v Niemeier Prediction and Tip

It’s surprising to note that Osorio actually starts off a second favourite in this one and we would be glad to jump at the 6/5 odds on offer for her victory here.
