Rebeka Masarova v Jasmine Paolini
A very tough matchup awaits Rebeka Masarova in the first round of the Lyon Open as she faces very strong Jasmine Paolini. Both players play a similar style of tennis but it works far better for Masarova as she’s a taller player who should have an edge in this matchup.
Paolini battles hard in every matchup so expect her to get to many balls and send them back. Whether Masarova will be able to hit well enough to keep winning rallies remains to be seen but so far she’s been really good this year. Her run in Australia surprised many but the potential to do so was always there.
Masarova is 9-2 in 2023 with Paolini posting only a 1-3 level. Despite being a really solid player, Paolini is also a streaky player and right now it’s not looking too good for her.
Due to that, Masarova in favoured to win this matchup. She’s playing better right now and the conditions favour her a bit more. That should translate to a comfortable victory.
Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Linda Fruhvirtova v Tamara Zidansek
After dispatching Bethanie Mattek-Sands easily, Linda Fruhvirtova will try to do the same thing against Tamara Zidansek. This promises to be a bigger challenge because the Slovenian player is playing far better right now than Mattek-Sands.
It’s been a similar start to the year for both players but there is far more buzz around Fruhvirtova due to her being only 17 years. Zidansek has played on the Tour for a while and she started well considering her hard court level was never anything special.
She’s 3-3 so far while Fruhvirtova is 5-3 and the young Czech player is favoured to win again. It’s their first match so she could surprise Zidansek with her style which can be tricky to counter. Fruhvirtova showed a solid level in her previous match but was also a bit uncertain at times.
That’s something Zidansek can exploit and if the match goes long that’s another thing. The Slovenian player is much stronger than her opponent right now. We do expect the Czech player to win but there is a solid value in the over as it’s not going to be as smooth as against Mattek-Sands.
Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Anna Kalinskaya v Lesia Tsurenko
Another interesting matchup in Hua Hin will take place between superb hitters Kalinsakya and Tsurenko. This matchup is fascinating in many ways as it features two players that started well in Thailand and play similarly.
They also never played before so that adds another dimension to the match which promises to be a really good one. The better player overall has to be Kalinskaya because she’s far younger and her rise over the past couple of years was steady.
She’s looking to break into the top 50 with a good result here and she’s favoured to win the match. Her score is 4-3 so far with Tsurenko posting a 7-1 score in 2023.
It’s not going to be an easy job for Kalinskaya despite everything pointing in her direction. She’s a streaky player that can play a bad match as there is no plan B in her tennis. Tsurenko is experienced enough to make her uncomfortable. Even so, we think she’ll get it done.
Tip: Kalinskaya to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
