Shuai Zhang v Maryna Zanevska Head to Head
Two previous matches between these two have been split at one apiece. On the hardcourt surfaces of Doha in 2014, it was Zhang who came away a winner while last year in Strasbourg on clay, Zanevska surprised her opponent.

It took Zhang a mere hour and two minutes to get past Madison Brengle in the first round of this competition as the world number 23 resumed her quest to break into the top 20 for the first time in her career.
Around a year ago, Zhang wasn’t even in the top 70 of the WTA Rankings but a title win at this very tournament in 2022 and solid performances at the Cincinnati Open and US Open, not to mention a runner-up trophy in Birmingham ensured she would end the year ranked 22nd in the world.
While she did not have the greatest of starts to this season, as she failed to go past the first round at both the Adelaide International tournaments, Zhang shrugged that off with a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open.
And following on from that, she registered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Brengle, with four breaks of serves going her way in the process. Can she now surge forward as she hopes to defend all her points from her last showing in Lyon?

Zanevska Lives up to Favourites Billing against Galfi
Having entered the match as a 3/10 favourite against Dalma Galfi in the first round here, Zanevska registered a 6-1, 7-6 (3) win over her Hungarian opponent.
Galfi had come into the encounter on the back of three successive defeats this season and fell away in an hour and 32 minutes to the superior player in the contest. Zanevska raced off to an easy win in the first set, needing just 31 minutes there but had to dig deep into her reserves in the second.
She was broken in the eighth game of the second set but broke right back as Galfi served for the set. Interestingly, other than those two games, there was only one other break of serve.
In the tie-breaker that followed, however, Zanevska turned a 1-2 deficit on its head by winning the next five points in a row and clinching the win soon after. Can she do something similar against Zhang?
Zhang v Zanevska Prediction and Tip
Zhang is a favourite but according to bookmakers, Zanevska isn’t too far behind at 11/10 which is bit of a surprise. We will have to go with a Zhang win here.
