Emil Ruusuvuori v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

This is quite an interesting rivalry with four meetings between these two players spread across the last two years. Both have won two times apiece while in hardcourt competitions it’s 2-1 in favour of Ymer which includes a tough three-set win at the Adelaide International earlier this year.

Ruusuvuori 1-3 to Kick Things Off

While Ruusuvuori did have a decent time at the Davis Cup in the weekend preceding this tournament, his start to the year otherwise hasn’t been much to write home about.

The world number 43 isn’t too far away from his career-best ranking but a 1-3 win-loss record at the highest level this season is something he would like to change.

At the Pune Open where Ruusuvuori kick-started his season, he was one of the top four seeds to have gotten himself a bye in the first round. In the second, he fell to Benjamin Bonzi.

He followed it up with an opening round defeat at the hands of Mikael Ymer at the Adelaide International 2 and while he won his first match of the year at the Australian Open against Mx Purcell, Ruusuvuori lost in the very next round there. Andrey Rublev got the better of him on expected lines.

The Finn will now look to turn things around in Montpellier where he has played just once before and had reached the round of 16 in 2020.

Ymer Helps Sweden Through

Only last year Ymer was ranked outside the top 100. This season, he has already climbed up nine spots to get to his career-best ranking of 60th in the world and by the looks of things, he could well be on his way to breaking into the top 50.

Ymer will need to win a few more rounds over the next few weeks to do that but given his form, it looks like he might well be in line to do that.

Twice this season, as a qualifier, Ymer has managed to exhibit strong performances in the main draw of those tournaments.

It started with a quarterfinal appearance at the Adelaide International 2 before Ymer managed to make it to the final at the Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve Challenger where he lost to David Goffin. Again, as a qualifier.

And while successive singles wins at the Davis Cup that helped Sweden trump Bosnia, Ymer’s confidence will be sky-rocketing coming into this one.

Ruusuvuori v Ymer Prediction and Tip

There’s not much between these two according to the bookmakers but we have to favour Ymer here. Three-setter a reasonable possibility too.
