Krajinovic 2-2 This Year

Krajinovic seemed to have made a good start to the season when he took to court at the Pune Open in the first week of the year but has fallen away a tad since then.

The Serb needed three sets to get past Sumit Nagal and Michael Mmoh in the first two rounds of the competition in Pune but hasn’t won a set since then. He lost his quarterfinal to Benjamin Bonzi there before going down 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 at the hands of Holger Rune in the first round of the Australian Open.

Sure, Rune was a huge favourite coming into that encounter but Krajinovic would have expected to do a lot better than win just nine games in that match.

Coming into this encounter in Montpellier, the good news for Krajinovic is two-fold.

For starters, he has done exceptionally well in this tournament, having been a two-time semifinalist over the last couple of times he has played here. His overall record in indoor tournaments is a solid 42-35 too, which should fill him up with a lot of confidence here.

Karatsev Started Well in Pune

Like Krajinovic, Karatsev did well to kick things off in Pune where he went on to win three rounds and make the semifinal.

Victories over Pablo Andujar, Tim van Rijthoven and Pedro Martinez were all par for the course as Karatsev started off a favourite in all three of them and registered straight-set wins over them.

He was 1/2 odds on favourite against Tallon Griekspoor too in the semifinals but fell in straight sets in what turned out to be a surprise result. And following that, pitted against Grigor Dimitrov at the Australian Open, Karatsev lost to the Bulgarian seed in straight sets.

Once ranked 14th in the world, Karatsev has fallen to 98th in the world and unless he can find a string of results like the Pune one, the descent on the rankings charts could continue.

Krajinovic v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose between these two with Karatsev a mild favourite at 4/5. We, however, will have to back Krajinovic here given his past record at this tournament and on this surface.
