Marc-Andrea Huesler v Luca Van Assche Head to Head

Huesler and van Assche have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Huesler Aiming to Turn Losing ATP Streak Around

Huesler had a good start to the season at the United Cup, winning both his matches in the tournament there. Then again, the Swiss player was up against a 129th-ranked and a 273rd-ranked opponent respectively in those two matches there.

He followed that up with a hard-fought victory over Arthur Rinderknech in the first round of the Adelaide International 2 to make it three in three.

From that point on, however, Huesler has lost two matches in a row.

He fell to a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Karen Khachanov in Adelaide and then lost his Australian Open opener to John Millman despite starting out a 7/10 favourite in that one.

At the time of writing, Huesler did have a win over Oscar Otte in the Davis Cup but he would love to turn his ATP form around as he bids to break into the top 50 of the rankings for the first time in his career.

Van Assche Yet to Win a Main Draw Match This Season

While Van Assche did make it to the second round at the Quimper Challenger last week, he is yet to win a main draw match at the highest level in 2023.

The 18-year-old, who was knocked out of the qualifiers of this tournament over the last two seasons, had had a brilliant last season on the Challenger circuit. So much so he climbed up the ATP charts from outside of top 500 to end the year ranked 139th in the world.

This year, however, Van Assche lost in his opener at the Canberra Challenger and then went down to Federico Coria and Cameron Norrie respectively at Auckland and Melbourne respectively.

An opening win at Quimper against Luca Nardi would have given him some respite but Van Assche followed that up with a defeat to Geoffrey Blancaneaux, who was 5/2 coming into the encounter.

Can the Frenchman turn things around here?

Huesler v Van Assche Prediction and Tip

Huesler is 1/2 to win this coming into this encounter and will hope he has enough gap between his second Davis Cup match against Alexander Zverev and this one to get prepped for it.
