Jelena Ostapenko v Madison Keys Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Keys leads 3-1 on their head to head.

Ostapenko’s only win came on the grass couts of Eastbourne last season while Keys has defeated her on grass, clay and hardcourt surfaces. The last of those wins came at the Cincinnati Open last season.

Ostapenko with a 6-4 Win-Loss This Year

It’s been a tale of two different phases for Ostapenko already this year. The first consists of her performance at the Australian Open at which she excelled and for the first time in her career, made it as far as the quarterfinal there.

Before this season, Ostapenko’s best showing at the Australian Open was a third round appearance at the 2017, 2018 and 2022 editions. What made it extra special was it consisted of a win over Cori Gauff, one of the pre-tournament favourites.

That aside, however, Ostapenko has struggled to get things moving in her favour.

At the twin tournaments in Adelaide, she won just one match and lost two. And as recently as the Abu Dhabi Open last week, Ostapenko was sent out in the second round by Qinwen Zheng after having edged out Danielle Collins.

Ostapenko will hope it’s the one who played at the Australian Open comes through this time in Qatar.

Keys on Seven Wins from Eight Matches

While Keys did crash out of the Australian Open – the last tournament she played – in the third round, it must be quickly added the loss came at the hands of the in-form and former winner Victoria Azarenka.

Other than that loss, Keys has been in some impregnable form.

In the five matches she played at the United Cup, Keys did not lose any, and dropped just one set. She then overcame Anna Blinkova and Xinyu Wang at the season’s first major to make it seven wins in a row.

Now playing in her first match since that Azarenka defeat, Keys will start off with a bit of an upper hand but will hope the three-week break doesn’t cause any rustiness.

Ostapenko v Keys Prediction and Tip

Keys is 8/11 to win this and we will have to back her to come through although Ostapenko could put up a brave front as she usually does even when she isn’t winning matches.
