Veronika Kudermetova v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

The tally stands at 1-1; they last met in the Cincinnati Open last year, where Kudermetova won in straight sets.

Kudermetova Coming off a Slow Week

Veronika Kudermetova, current World No. 11, kickstarted the Middle-East swing with a disappointing spell in the Abu Dhabi Open.  With a bye into round two there, she first beat Elise Mertens 6-1, 7-5, only to be followed by a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Liudmila Samsonova in the quarters.

Her ongoing record now stands at 6-3 – courtesy of her deep runs in Adelaide tournaments. The 25-year-old Russian has shown a fair amount of promise already, having dispatched big names like Amanda Anisimova, Bianca Andreescu, Victoria Azarenka, and Danielle Collins.

But that may not be enough for her to do well in Doha, considering her poor record here. Kudermetova has made it past the first round just once in her last four attempts – and even then, she fell in round two to Belinda Bencic in the 2020 edition. Last season, she incurred a shock, straight-set loss to Arantxa Rus in the opener.

Veronika finished the previous season with a record of 39-20 and participated in several finals for both singles and doubles, indicating that she has the potential to perform well.

Krejcikova in a Similar Tide

Barbora Krejcikova, current doubles number three and singles No. 30, too, endured a slow start in Abu Dhabi. Like her Russian counterpart, she was also beaten by Liudmila Samsonova in the second round – after moving past Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the first match.

Her record in Doha is not impressive either, having lost in the second round in the 2021 and 2022 editions.

That said, she is a doubles expert with 11 major finals to her name already – including the last month’s Australian Open doubles with Katerina Siniakova. In the singles draw, she made it as far as the round of 16.

The 27-year-old Czech had a season in 2022 comparable to Kudermetova’s in many aspects. Although her overall score was less than 25-15, she won two singles titles and three on the doubles circuit.

Kudermetova v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

This match can go either way, as both players are coming off similar results. Expect a tight encounter.
