David Goffin v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players which came in 2016 and 2019 and Goffin has won both.

Belgium Drops Davis Cup Tie after Goffin Defeat

Goffin was on his way to playing at the Australian Open but withdrew from the tournament after suffering from food poisoning that left him with no option but to return home.

He then featured in a Challenger competition in Belgium in which he reached the final before falling to Mikael Ymer in the title-decider.

That looked to have given Goffin enough confidence to get past Seong Chan Hong in the first singles match in Belgium’s Davis Cup tie against South Korea but a defeat to Soon-woo Kwon followed soon enough.

This allowed South Korea to progress to the Davis Cup Finals while Belgium were knocked out.

Goffin will look to shrug that performance off as he takes on a player showing an upward trend as far as form goes.

Barrere Makes Through Qualifiers

It’s been a hectic few days for Barrere as the Frenchman looks to climb up the rankings ladder. The 28-year-old, who was ranked 247th in the world last May has quickly risen up to 71st at the time of writing, his career-best ranking.

And that has been down to some of his best performances over this season which has seen Barrere reach the second round at the Auckland Open and follow it up with three solid showings.

At the first, he won the title at the Quimper Challenger, beating Arthur Fils in the final. He followed that up with a quarterfinal appearance at the Montpellier Open with victories over Alexander Bublik and Nikoloz Basilashvili.

After this, Barrere carved out successive qualifying wins over Jesper de Jong and Quentin Halys to make it through to the main draw here.

Even by entering the first round here, Barrere can expect to move up the rankings chart but given the form that he is in, there is a good chance he could get the better of Goffin here.

Goffin v Barrere Prediction and Tip

Goffin starts a favourite but hasn’t been in the best of rhythm and coming up against a player showing the kind of momentum that Barrere has in recent times, he could be in for a roller-coaster ride in this match.
