Albot Pinches Two Tiebreaks Against Verdasco

2019 Delray champion Radu Albot overcame former top 10 player Fernando Verdasco in two tiebreak sets to book his spot in the second round.

Albot survived this match by the skin of his teeth. Verdasco will reflect on an opportunity missed to pick up his first main draw win of the season.

The Spaniard served for the first set at 5-4, but could not convert a set point on serve, and paid a hefty price as Albot raced to win the tiebreak 7-3.

In the second set, Verdasco was up a break, but his inability to consolidate gave Albot a route back into the set. The two players exchanged service breaks twice in the second set before another tiebreak decided matters.

Verdasco was passive again as he played a horrendous breaker in which he won only one point to succumb to another defeat.

Vukic Stuns Eubanks In Rematch

Aleksandar Vukic in the final round of qualifying to Christopher Eubanks last weekend. But after John Isner’s late withdrawal, it meant Vukic was next in line to earn a lucky loser spot in the main draw.

And as fate would have it, he would face off against Eubanks for the second time in as many days. This time, Vukic won by the tightest of margins, coming from a set down to win 6-7 6-3 6-4.

Eubanks landed 70% first serves, served nine aces, and even saved eight of 11 break points. But the three times he was broken he did not have the answers in his return games.

Vukic just about deserved it this time, having tallied 21 winners to 14 unforced errors, which were seven errors fewer than his opponent.

Albot v Vukic Prediction and Tip

Both players were under constant pressure and neither of them had a great deal of success most of the time from the baseline in their respective first-round matches. However, Vukic has been slightly impressive, having seen off some challenging hurdles this year. Expect this one to go the distance.
