Iga Swiatek v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both were won by Swiatek. Swiatek clinched the first at the 2020 US Open 6-3, 6-3 before routing Kudermetova at the 2021 Indian Wells Open 6-1, 6-0.

Swiatek Gets a Bencic Walkover

Swiatek’s entry into the semifinal of this tournament has probably been one of the quickest ever in the history of tennis.

The world number one had a first round bye and in the second round, Swiatek registered a crushing 6-0, 6-1 win over Danielle Collins. She did not allow her American opponent to settle down one bit in the encounter and by the time Collins had won a game, it was all over bar the shouting.

And then again Swiatek did not have to lift her racquet in the quarterfinal either when Belinda Bencic opted out of the competition immediately after her second round win citing exhaustion.

Swiatek kick-started her world tennis dominance last season on the back of how she went about her business at this very tournament. Looks like another interesting run could be in the offing.

Kudermetova Shocks Gauff

In what was a continuation of her stupendous form this tournament, Kudermetova managed to overcome the odds to prevent the much-awaited Swiatek-Gauff semifinal.

Cori Gauff was a 1/2 favourite going into her quarterfinal against Kudermetova but fell in three sets to the world number 11 in a match that lasted two hours and six minutes.

Kudermetova, who was knocked out in the first round of this competition last season, looked to be in a great rush here as she clinched the first set with two breaks of serves. She then twice went a break up in the second set, only for Gauff to break right back before successive service losses in three successive games gave the American an equaliser.

In the decider, however, Kudermetova dished out a dose from the opening set, breaking Gauff twice to claim the semifinal berth.

This win follows victories over Barbora Krejcikova and Sofia Kenin in the first two rounds for Kudermetova. Swiatek could be a bridge too far though.

Swiatek v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

No prizes for guessing who the favourite is and it’s tough to bet against Swiatek when she is in the kind of form that was on show against Collins. The lack of tennis might be a problem but can Kudermetova come close to taking advantage of that? We don’t think so.
