Holger Rune v Gijs Brouwer Head to Head
It will be their first tour level meeting. However, Rune leads 1-0 having won their only meeting at a lower level tournament in 2019.

World no. 9 Holger Rune won the opening round match of his Rotterdam debut to advance to the Round of 16.
The fourth seed knocked out French qualifier Constant Lestienne 6-4, 6-4 in a one-hour-and-17-minute contest on Wednesday . Rune struck 23 winners and converted 14 of 23 net points in the match. He also held 12 break points in the contest, converting four of them. His opponent, the world no. 54, could create just two breaking opportunities and he capitalised on both of them.
Following the victory, Rune improved to 8-3 in 2023 and 3-1 on indoor hard courts (the surface where he produced his best tennis last year). He was a semifinalist in the season’s first indoor tournament in Montpellier last week, suffering a tough three-set defeat to Maxime Cressy in the final four stage.
The 19-year-old had a 21-4 record on indoor courts during a 50-27 season across levels last year. He finished the 2022 season by playing in four consecutive indoor finals. While he won the Paris Masters and the Stockholm Open titles, he finished runner-up in Sofia and Basel.
Having got off to a good start, he will be eying a second quarterfinal this season, following his run in Montpellier last week. Earlier he had made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open and had won both his Davis Cup matches against India.

Brouwer Stuns Huesler
Dutch wild card Gijs Brouwer made an impressive start by stunning world no. 47 Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round.
The world no. 160 dominated the contest, breaking the Swiss once in each set for a 6-3, 7-5 victory. Hueseler held one break point in the match, which was saved by the Dutchman.
Brouwer won 84% points on his first delivery, struck 28 winners and converted 19 of 21 net points to record his second win of the season at any level.
The 26-year-old made three first round exits from Challenger events and lost his first qualifying round match at the Australian Open. His only other win came in the Quimper Challenger against Vasek Pospisil, but he lost in the second round.
He wasn’t expected to win the opener but he punched above his weight. Can the Dutchman pull off a major upset on Thursday?
Rune v Brouwer Prediction and Tip
Rune is the overwhelming favourite. He is the better player and has been terrific on indoor hard courts. Expect him to make quick work of the local hope.
