Linda Fruhvirtova v Danielle Collins Head to Head

She is just 17 years of age but Fruhvirtova is already on the verge of breaking into the top 50 of the world rankings. A good run in this competition should help her come through but the Czech is starting out against a player who had made the Australian Open final last year.
Fruhvirtova herself showed what she is capable of at the season’s first Grand Slam this year as she cruised through to the fourth round there. A hard-fought match against Donna Vekic resulted in a narrow defeat but she would have taken a lot from her campaign at that tournament.
After that, Fruhvirtova has featured in just the Hua Hin Open where a win and a defeat followed. That loss, specially, would have been a tough one given it came against Tamara Zidansek, a player who was 2/1 going into the encounter.
Unfortunately for Fruhvirtova, the draw in this tournament hasn’t been the kindest but sometimes when you are just starting out your career, it doesn’t matter who you are playing – you just want to go out there and defeat the best and that could well be Fruhvirtova’s attitude here, irrespective of the round.

Collins 5-5 for the Season
For a player who was ranked as high as seventh in the world till last year and had begun the season at 11th, Collins would be struggling to get her mind around the kind of start she has had to 2023.
She has won just five of the 10 matches she has played so far and enters this tournament on the back of one of her worst defeats in recent times.
Sure that came against the world number one Iga Swiatek but Collins would have liked to get something out of the match. Something other than the one game she managed to win.
Before that too, Collins’ best showing came at the Australian Open where she needed back to back three setters against Anna Kalinskaya and Karolina Muchova to reach just the third round. And there she lost to Elena Rybakina, also in three.
Can she get some of her winning rhythm back? Bookmakers certainly seem to think so.

Collins is 9/20 to win this but we expect Fruhvirtova to make matters really difficult for the American. Expect a three-setter here.
