Leylah Fernandez v Julia Grabher Head to Head

The pair played each other in Auckland just last month, Fernandez thrashing Grabher in straight sets for the loss of just one game.

Fernandez Yet to Fulfil Teenage Potential

Fernandez has yet to fulfil the early potential she showed as a teenager, when she won her first title in Mexico in 2021 and went on to reach the final of the US Open, before losing to Emma Radecanu.

However, she is still young, time is on her side, and she will be looking for the chance to win Monterrey for a third successive time next month.

Grabher Comes Through Qualifying

Grabher, the current Austrian number one, won her first WTA title last year, beating Nuria Brancaccio in the final of the Bari Open.

That was on clay, the surface on which she has enjoyed the vast majority of her success on the junior tours, with three ITF tournament victories in 2022 to her name as well.

So far, results have been hard to come by in 2023 for the Austrian.

She suffered that heavy defeat in the second round in Auckland at the hands of Fernandez and then failed to qualify for Hobart.

Grabher did make her debut at the Australian Open, but suffered a straight sets defeat to the Slovenian Kaja Juvan.

Consecutive first round defeats in Lyon and Linz followed, but she at least has given herself a chance to end that run by coming through qualifying in Dubai, beating Eden Silva of Great Britain and Kristina Mladenovic of France in the process.

Fernandez v Grabher Prediction and Tip

Given that the last time they met was just six weeks ago, and Fernandez won that match for the loss of just one game, it is hard to make much of a case for Grabher in this match. It should be a comfortable work-out for the Canadian.
