Taylor Fritz v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two on hardcourt surfaces and Fritz leads 2-1 but with Kecmanovic having won the last time they met. That had come at the Miami Masters in 2022.

Fritz Staves off Late McDonald Fightback

For the third match in a row, Fritz ousted his opponent in straight sets and with that he has reached his first ATP individual final of the season.

Fighting off a late attempt at a comeback from Mackenzie McDonald in the semifinal, Fritz won 6-3, 7-6 (6) to make it 10-3 on win-loss for the year.

With wins over Emilio Gomez and Adrian Mannarino in the first two rounds, Fritz looked to be on a roll as he grabbed a 5-1 lead and then pocketed the set despite losing his serve once.

In the second, however, came Fritz’s biggest test. He first fell 1-3 – and 2-4 – behind and had to break back to push the set into a tie-breaker. And in the ensuing tie-breaker, Fritz was down 0-3 and at one stage, 3-5 before turning things around by winning three points in a row.

Fritz won it off his second match-point and will now be looking to add to his United Cup title he won earlier this season.

Kecmanovic Stretched by Albot

Radu Albot could well have been sitting in the final of this tournament had he made use of one of the three set-points in the first set. As it turned out, Kecmanovic overcame those three to claim the first in a tie-breaker before clinching the encounter in a hard-fought three-setter.

Kecmanovic was on court for two hours and 30 minutes to win 7-6 (8), 3-6, 6-2 which followed his victories over Nuno Borges and Marcos Giron in the previous two rounds.

Having come into this tournament on the back of just one set of back to back wins this year – it came in Adelaide – Kecmanovic’s toughest opponent was Giron in the previous round. He came through in straight sets to start off a 1/3 favourite against Albot.

Which is why when Albot frittered away those set-points it would have come as a relief for the Serb but his opponent levelled things out soon after by winning the second set. And when Albot broke his opponent in the first game of the third, it seemed like Kecmanovic had met his match.

Not to be outdone though, Kecmanovic came back strongly to break right back and then repeated the same dose two more times to cement his place in the final.

Fritz might not give him so many chances though.

Fritz v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Fritz should have it easy here and come through in straight sets. Kecmanovic will come into this encounter slightly exhausted too which could play a part.
