Joao Fonseca is not a big name in tennis just yet, but he is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects among his peers in the Brazilian tennis fraternity.
Fonseca is only 16, but produced some stonking wins at the Sao Leopoldo Challenger last November, reaching the quarterfinal in just his second appearance in the main draw of an ATP Challenger Tour.
It was a run that was sparked by a Davis Cup junior success a few weeks earlier, with Fonseca scoring the decisive win for his country as Brazilian won the team competition.
Those heights have proved sufficient to convince the tournament organizers at the Rio Open to hand him a wild card and will surely be looking to impress on his debut appearance on the ATP tour.
