Laslo Djere v Facundo Bagnis Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, Bagnis winning in three sets in the quarter-finals of the Chile Open in 2021.

Djere Has Won This Title Before

Djere was originally scheduled to play Alex Molcan, but a last minute withdrawal saw the Slovak promoted to seed status and a rearrangement of the fixtures.

The Serb, though, will have fond memories of this tournament from five years ago, because he won his first senior ATP title in Rio, beating Felix Augur-Aliassime in the final.

Since then, he has won the Sardinia Open and been beaten in the final of the same event, both on clay, although his most recent final, last year, in Winston Salem, was on hard courts. He lost that match to Adrian Mannarino of France.

His season so far has been mixed, reaching the second round in Pune, and the quarter-finals in Auckland.

His interest in the Australian Open was ended at the second round stage by Grigor Dimitrov, and he lost in the same round in Buenos Aires last week.

In mitigation he can claim that he was playing the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, he did take the Spaniard to three sets, and Alcaraz did go on to win the tournament.

Bagnis Makes His Way Through Qualifying

It is coming up to the two year anniversary since Bagnis reached his one ATP singles final – beating Djere in the process – losing in three sets to Cristian Garin in Chile.

The Argentine would dearly love to rediscover the form that took him to the final in Santiago, although winning two Challenger tournaments and reaching a third, all on clay, and all on South American soil last autumn, served as a reminder of his capabilities, when he is playing well.

2023, though, has not started well for the 32 year old, who failed to qualify for Auckland, and who was beaten by Dan Evans in the first round of the Australian Open.

He lost the one Davis Cup tie he played for Argentina, and then suffered a first round defeat in Cordoba.

Then he failed to qualify on home soil in Buenos Aires, but has had better fortune in Rio.

He battled past the Brazilian world number 306, Joao Lucas Reis Da Silva in three sets, and then beat the German Yannick Hanfmann, to earn his opportunity against Djere.

Djere v Bagnis Prediction and Tip

Djere, as a past winner of this tournament, will want to impress on his return to Rio again, and, given that Bagnis had to qualify for the right to meet him, will hope that he can beat the Argentine without too much difficulty.
