Daria Kasatkina v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

Daria Kasatkina has played both in Abu Dhabi and Doha in the past two weeks but she didn’t really mesmerize with her tennis. In both events, Kasatkina suffered a loss immediately after winning a match so it’s been really up and down.
Last week’s defeat was to Beatriz Haddad Maia which is not a terrible loss but it’s pretty clear that she’s not playing her best tennis right now. She just announced a split with her coach so it seems like a very unstable time for the Russian right now.
Another tricky matchup awaits her in Dubai as she faces Krejcikova, a very good player. Her style is rather defensive but she can also attack when she finds an opportunity.
It’s tough to handle and a lot of players struggle with it. The conditions being somewhat slower is something that might benefit her though.

Krejcikova Downs Begu in R1
Unlike Kasatkina, Krejcikova actually played once in Dubai already and it was a rather solid win over the tricky Begu. She didn’t start the match well but found a rhythm in time to turn it around and win it in two sets. It’s an event which suits Krejcikova and her style of play and she will be tough to handle for many players.
It’s been okay so far in 2023 with a 6-4 record but it’s not quite as consistent as we have come to expect from Krejcikova. She does really well on hard courts, somewhat better than Kasatkina but they’re both pretty good. Her biggest advantage is the ability to take over the match with her ball-striking.
It’s not as sharp as it once was but Kasatkina gives you chances to win the match if you can properly hit the ball. It’s easier on hard courts and less so on clay courts.
The serve will be crucial for Krejcikova because any short ball she might get will likely come after the serve and not necessarily in the rally.
