Cori Gauff v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between Gauff and Sasnovich.

Sure, Gauff won the United Cup title earlier this year for the USA by winning all her five singles matches. And she would also go on to lift the Qatar Open doubles title last week with Jessica Pegula. Earlier they had also made the Australian Open semifinals as a doubles pair.
However, Gauff would like to do a lot better on the singles tour than what has transpired in the last two tournaments.
Sure, she is only 18 years of age and has already touched a career-high of fourth in the world. But coming into the Australian Open as one of the favourites, Gauff was knocked out in the fourth round by Jelena Ostapenko.
And last week at the Qatar Open, Gauff won her opener but lost to Veronika Kudermetova in the second.
Now make no mistake, Ostapenko and Kudermetova are solid players and have the potential to pounce on their opponents given their own quality but for someone like Gauff to lose back to back tournaments without going deep will be somewhat of a concern.
What will not be a concern here is the opponent she faces first up.

Sasnovich Overturns Poor Start against Masarova
Rebeka Masarova looked to be living up to the bookmakers’ odds when she grabbed the first set of her first round match against Sasnovich but the Belarusian player came back strongly to pull off a three-set win.
Sasnovich was on court for two hours and 12 minutes before winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a match which saw both players break the opponent’s serve four times. What was also interesting to see was the serve percentages from both players.
While Masarova served out seven aces to her opponent’s zero and got the same amount of first serves in, where Sasnovich seemed to score over her opponent was on the second serve percentages. Sasnovich won 57% of those points while Masarova could manage just 44%.
What Sasnovich will obviously want is for these statistics to improve even more in her second round match against a player of Gauff’s stature. She has beaten top-10 players in the past, a total of six times including the likes of Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina.

Gauff will need to play woefully to lose this one to a player who has in general struggled for successive wins. Expecting Gauff to come through in straight sets.
