Ostapenko was off to a flying start in the competition as she raced past Katarina Zavatska in her opener to book her place in the last 32.
In a match lasting a mere hour and 16 minutes, Ostapenko registered a 6-1, 6-4 win over her Ukrainian opponent. The world number 20 did not allow Zavatska to settle into any kind of rhythm in the first set, breaking her in the very first two games to take a 5-0 lead.
By the time Zavatska had some sort of a hold on her own serve, it was the second set but she fell a break behind at 4-3. Zavatska did break back off the only break-point she got in the match but Ostapenko won the next two games to complete her facile win.
The Latvian number one had come into this tournament on the back of successive second round exits at the Abu Dhabi Open and Qatar Open.

Fruhvirtova Sends Collins Packing
Danielle Collins is no mug with the tennis racquet as can be seen from both, her career-best ranking of world number seven and her appearance in the Australian Open final last year. However, she has been slightly off the mark this season and Fruhvirtova took full toll of that in her first round win over the American.
Fruhvirtova won 6-3, 6-4 in a mere hour and 18 minutes to move into the second round and come closer to breaking into the top 50.
The first set wasn’t so much of a problem for Fruhvirtova who broke her opponent twice without facing a single break-point of her own. It was in the second when Collins looked much more threatening that Fruhvirtova’s resilience came to the fore.
Collins broke Fruhvirtova to take a 2-1 lead but was broken right back. She did the same in the seventh game but for the second time in a row, Fruhvirtova managed to make it 4-4 and then responded with a third break of her own in the 10th game to claim the set and match.
She will have her confidence right up there as she takes to court against Ostapenko.
