Pablo Andujar v Alexander Ritschard Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first time the 37 year old Spaniard has met the Swiss player, nine years his junior.

Andujar Yet to Win a Set in 2023

Andujar is reaching the veteran stage of a career that has seen him reach nine ATP finals and win four of them, most recently in Morocco in 2018.

However, the fact that all of those finals were on clay is an indication of the strength of his game.

Once ranking as high as 32nd in the world, his current standing reflects some issues with injury, poor form and the fact that he has not appeared on tour as often as he once did.

This will be his fourth event of the year and he is still waiting for his first set, let alone win.

He began his campaign in Pune, where he was beaten in the first round in straight sets by Aslan Karatsev.

The Spaniard then not only lost in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open, but he only won three games off Adam Walton of Australia, the world number 377.

His most recent tournament was in Cordoba, where he lost the first set of his opening round match with Juan Manuel Cerundulo, before he had to retire with an injury.

Late Bloomer Ritschard

Ritschard is something of a late bloomer.

Although he made his ATP debut in the doubles back in 2013, it took him until last year before he made his maiden Grand Slam appearance, after qualifying for Wimbledon.

He would go on to win his first main tour match in Gastad, and reach the US Open after qualifying.

add to the equation, he won his first Challenger title in Hamburg in October, defeating fellow Swiss Henri Laaksonen in the final.

He has spent this year so far on the Challenger circuit, where he had lost all four of the matches he had played, prior to entering qualifying in Marseille.

However, after defeating Fabian Marozsan of Hungary, and compatriot Antoine Bellier, he is in an ATP main draw for the first time this year.

Andujar v Ritschard Prediction and Tip

Given the poor form that both men have shown so far this year, it is hard to pick a winner. Andujar has the much better pedigree, but he prefers clay, and the two wins that Ritschard had in qualifying may mean that he is the sharper of the two.
