Elias Ymer v Gijs Brouwer Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first time the two 26 year olds will have played a match against each other.

Ymer Yet to Win on the Main Tour This Year

Elias is the older, and, as far a tennis is concerned, the less successful of the Ymer brothers, although the siblings did win the doubles together at the Swedish Open back in 2016.

Since then, his best results have come on the Challenger tour, with his most recent final coming last June, when he was beaten in the final in an event in Italy on clay.

The Swede began his season in Pune, where he successfully made it through qualifying only to lose in the first round.

His attempt to qualify for the Australian Open, though, ended in disappointment, and a return to the Challenger tour ended with two consecutive second round defeats.

Last week it was more disappointment in Rotterdam, as again he was beaten in qualifying.

It means he is chasing his first main tour victory of the year.

Rotterdam Quarter-Finalist Brouwer

Brouwer is now the number three ranked Dutch player after Botic van der Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor, although he was actually born in the US.

Last year was something of a break-out year for Brouwer. He made his main tour debut at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship, and reached the quarter-finals before losing to Reilly Opelka.

Then he reached his first Challenger title, although he lost, and made his Grand Slam debut in New York as a qualifier, beating the world number 45 Adrian Mannarino in the first round.

The first weeks of the new season, though, did not go so well for him, with a series of first round defeats on the Challenger tour, and failure to qualify for the Australian Open.

All that, though, changed for him on home soil in Rotterdam last week, although Lady Luck had its part to play.

A withdrawal meant that Brouwer was promoted to the main draw without qualifying, where he promptly beat Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland.

Playing the fourth seed Holger Rune in the second set, he was a set and four love up when the Dane was forced to retire with an injury.

Griekspoor ended his run in the quarter-finals, handing him a straight sets defeat.

Ymer v Brouwer Prediction and Tip

Based on current form, Brouwer will start the favourite, given that he reached the quarter-finals in Rotterdam last week, whereas Ymer is yet to win a main tour match this season.
