Richard Gasquet v Laurent Lokoli Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these two players but that came on the Challenger circuit last year with Gasquet winning it in straight sets.

It must be said that Gasquet’s title win in Auckland in the second week of the season was against the run of play. He hadn’t won any ATP titles since 2018 and at 36, Gasquet wasn’t getting any younger.
Still, to go on to win the tournament with wins over David Goffin and Cameron Norrie was an achievement in itself and would have boosted Gasquet’s confidence no end.
And yet, we are back to square one with Gasquet’s form. In the four matches that have followed that Auckland Open victory, Gasquet has won just one match. It was a stunning win in itself, defeating the 9/20 favourite Pablo Carreno Busta in the Rotterdam Open opener but other than that, the Frenchman has been underwhelming.
Which is why this becomes an important match, and in turn a vital tournament for Gasquet. Playing at home, he will have the support of the crowd but more importantly, he would be motivated to show the triumph earlier was no flash in the pan.

Lokoli’s Yet to Win a Main Draw Match
He is 28 years old but Lokoli has spent a major part of his career playing at the lower level of the tennis tour. He has 14 titles to show for it as well including five Futures wins in 2022 but at the highest level Lokoli has played just six matches in his career.
Unfortunately for Lokoli, he has lost all.
Which is also why it was surprising to see him qualify for the main draw of this competition with back to back wins over opponents who could have easily usurped him. First he went past Egor Gerasimov before turning the tables on Filip Misolic in the second qualifier.
Now he will face a fellow Frenchman but one who not only has so much more experience than him at the highest level but also looks like he can never be underestimated even by a top-20 player like Carreno-Busta.
Will be a tough one for him to surmount.

Gasquet shouldn’t have a lot of issues here with a straight-set win looking the best result possible here.
