Cameron Norrie v Juan Manuel Cerundolo Head to Head
Norrie and Cerundolo have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Norrie Hoping to Replicate Buenos Aires Success
While Norrie was soundly beaten in the final of the Argentina Open last week, he did make it all the way through to that stage. And he will do well to remember he lost to a player who is not just the world number two but also one of the best on clay outside of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Norrie will not have a lot of time to turn over to Rio de Janeiro where he plays his first round match; just a couple of days between his final in Argentina and the opener in Rio. And that, more than anything else, will be a factor here.
Not too many players, especially those who aren’t the most comfortable on clay, make this quick a transition and Norrie specially hasn’t been had most of his success on this surface over the years.
Sure he is no mug on clay but does that mean Norrie will have it easy against a player who has grown and nurtured his talent on the red dirt? No. This could turn out to be a difficult challenge for the British number one.

Cerundolo Makes it as a Lucky Loser
While the rest of the players on tour were busy trying to get to the distance on the Australian Open Swing, Cerundolo preferred to feature on the clay courts of the Challenger circuit.
And the Argentine had quite some success at those lower levels too earlier this year as he won back to back Challenger titles in Tigre to kick-start his year. He was a quarterfinalist at the Concepcion Challenger where he lost his first match of the season before transferring his gaze at the highest level with his appearance at Cordoba.
At Cordoba, Cerundolo shocked Pablo Andujar and Diego Schwartzman on his way to the last eight and while he failed to qualify for the Buenos Aires Open, he looks to have done enough to rise from his season-low of 151st to his current 107th in the world.
He did get knocked out in the qualifiers here too but now that he has made it through as a lucky loser, he will probably back himself to come up with a strong performance in this opener here.
Norrie v Cerundolo Prediction and Tip
While Norrie is a favourite, the bookmakers have been smart to not have him as a heavily favourite (he’s 2/5 to win). We are cautiously positive about Norrie winning this but can expect Cerundolo to win a set here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Cerundolo to win a set – YES: 4/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with 888Sport)
