Aryna Sabalenka v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

There have been two previous matches, at the Linz Open in 2020 and the US Open in 2021 where these two have met and Sabalenka has won both times.

Sabalenka Stretched by Ostapenko

In what was only Sabalenka’s second loss of a set, she was put to the sword by Jelena Ostapenko in their third round match. That, however, did not last for too long as the world number two bounced back and carved out a three-set win over her Latvian opponent.

Sabalenka was on court for an hour and 42 minutes in which she won 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 to march forward.

The pair traded breaks of serves in the very first two games of the match before Ostapenko broke Sabalenka two more times in a row to wrap up the opening set.

It was a strange performance coming from a player who was on a 12-match winning streak at the highest level with figures of 42%, 40% and 43% for her first serves in, first serves won and second serves won respectively.

In the second and third set, Sabalenka changed that around. The serving went to another level as she broke Ostapenko five times over that phase while facing just one break-point in turn.

Can she shrug off that rare loss of focus and make it 14 from 14 against Krejcikova?

Krejcikova Blasts Past Petra

It was interesting going into this match that Krejcikova had never played Petra Kvitova before this. And the manner in which she played, Kvitova would probably not want to play her again!

Krejcikova outlasted Kvitova in a match lasting a mere hour and 15 minutes, winning 6-3, 6-2 to enter the quarterfinal. Both the break-points that Krejcikova faced came in the first set and she dropped her serve once too but that was after she had gone 4-0 up.

The second set was rather one-sided as Kvitova did not come any closer to breaking her opponent’s serve while dropping her own two times.

This win comes on the back of a straightforward victory over Irina Begu in the first round and a fighting showing against Daria Kasatkina in the second.

Can she now challenge the Belarusian number one or even go one step up?

Sabalenka v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka is 3/10 to grab this and despite all the fight that Krejcikova could look to offer, this might turn out to be a straight-setter for the world number two.
