Jessica Pegula v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between Pegula and Muchova.

Pegula Pulls Past Bogdan

Pegula did take her time to get going in the tournament when she was stretched to three sets by Viktoriya Tomova but her third round win over Ana Bogdan was a much more straightforward one.

The American won 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 36 minutes to seal her place next to Muchova in the last eight.

Bogdan did take the lead early in the first set, going 3-0 up with a break of serve but once Pegula got on to the board by winning a game off her own serve, she turned things around. Back to back breaks followed soon after and she grabbed the opening set, and then she broke two more times in the second set to to 4-1 up in the second.

This was followed by four successive breaks of serves with neither player able to hold serve but that was enough for Pegula to clinch the match.

Pegula will need to do a lot better than win a mere 53% of her first serve points if she wants to go the distance here.

Muchova Stuns Bencic

Belinda Bencic was returning after having pulled out of the Qatar Open last week and took her time to get going in her opening match. In her second, i.e. this third round match against Muchova she failed to do that even.

Muchova needed nearly an hour and a half to carve out a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bencic and continue her march into the next stage.

Having struggled through injuries and fall in the rankings – she is 112th in the world right now – Muchova had earlier gotten past Bernarda Pera and Sorana Cirstea to set up this meeting with Bencic.

And with six aces, 76% of the first serve points won and four breaks of serves, Muchova did all that she could to usurp a listless Bencic.

She will give herself a chance here against the world number three who has shown she might have a struggle with her serving.

Pegula v Muchova Prediction and Tip

Pegula might be a favourite here but we need to take the form of both players into account and with that mind this could turn out to be a close encounter. Might see a third set too.
