Albert Ramos Vinolas v Daniel Elahi Galan Head to Head

This will be the first time that Ramos Vinolas and Galan will be facing off in a competitive match at any level.

Ramos Vinolas Claws Back to Beat Etcheverry

Bookmakers couldn’t really decide between Ramos Vinolas and Tomas Etcheverry for the first round and in the end, the match also proved to be a very close one that went into the third set.

Ramos Vinolas, who had won just two matches all season coming into this tournament, overcame the first set deficit to find a way to register a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win. The ding-dong battle lasted a whopping three hours and 25 minutes.

A lot of credit must be given to the fighting capabilities of the 35-year-old Ramos Vinolas, who admittedly hasn’t been at the peak of his powers all season. He faced a whopping 20 break-points in the entire match but dropped just two games on his serve.

Nine of these break-points came in the crucial final set!

On the other hand, he broke his opponent three times from the eight chances he got, enough to help him scrape past Etcheverry.

Can he now now make it two in two, to make it his fourth win of the season to go with the six defeats he has suffered so far in 2023?

Galan Opens His Account for 2023

If Ramos Vinolas hasn’t been at his best this season, Galan’s record coming into his first round match here against Pedro Cachin was a woeful 0-4. Four tournaments played, four opening round exits under his belt.

Which is also why Galan was a distant second favourite coming into this one, odds of 7/5 on offer for his win. And after struggling through most part of the opening set, Galan would have been surprised to find himself winning 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the end.

Galan dropped his serve early to Cachin and it was only in the eighth game that he finally managed to get parity back into the encounter. A tie-breaker inevitably followed and that’s where Galan turned things around to win just his second set of the season.

The script reversed for the first eight games in the second set with Cachin overturning an early break against him in the eighth game but Galan broke right back before serving it out to grab his first win of the season.

Can he now stifle Ramos Vinolas to make it two in two?

Ramos Vinolas v Galan Prediction and Tip

Here are two players who have both struggled for wins this season but Ramos Vinolas’ experience and slightly better results this year puts him as our favourite to win this one. And bookmakers’ too.
