Laslo Djere v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

It’s 3-1 overall for Djere including 2-1 at the highest level. All four matches were on clay.

Djere Through After Bagnis Retires

Djere won his second match on clay for the season after his opening round opponent Facundo Bagnis retired from their match in the second set.

The Serb was leading 6-2, 3-2 when Bagnis opted to withdraw from the match because of fitness concerns one hour into the encounter. It followed Djere’s second round defeat at the Buenos Aires Open where he had managed to take Carlos Alcaraz to three sets.

There he had overcome Fabio Fognini in the opener.

It’s been a solid start to the season for Djere who is 7-4 on head to head which includes a Davis Cup win as well. His best performance for the year came at the Auckland Open where he won successive matches to make the quarterfinal.

Can he repeat his Auckland showing here?

Lajovic Sends Schwartzman Packing

Once ranked 23rd in the world, Lajovic has slipped to 80th on the ATP Rankings but that did not stop him from routing Diego Schwartzman in the first round here.

Having completely lost his form Schwartzman was coming into this first round match on the back of just one win from five matches and was the bookmakers’ underdog in the encounter.

That’s exactly how the match went too, with Lajovic needing less than an hour and a half to clinch a 6-1, 6-4 win.

Lajovic, who had made it to the quarterfinal of the Argentina Open last week after entering the draw as a qualifier, broke Schwartzman twice in the first set to pocket the first set in 33 minutes.

The second was slightly more evenly fought with the two trading a break apiece in the first four games. Lajovic then found a way to get past Schwartzman’s serve in the ninth game and held on to 15 to notch up a win.

Can he show something similar against his fellow Serb opponent?

Djere v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Djere gets our nod here despite what Lajovic did to Schwartzman – it was more a Schwartzman struggle thing than anything else.
