Norrie Outlasts Monteiro in Epic
Playing in his home country and on his favorite surface, the script couldn’t have been any better for Thiago Monteiro to pull off a second shock win, and this time, against the miuch-fancied seoncd seed Cameron Norrie.
But the Briton deviated from the scupt and at times, played the tennis that took to inside the top 10 not long ago. It was a slugfest that lasted two and half hours, and for a straight-sets match its not often you associate the word epic with it, but this one rightly fit the bill.
Norrie and Monteiro traded hellfire from the baseline in grueling and punhsing rallies. Everytime Monteiro broke serve, Norrie almsot immediately broke back.
The Brazilian had notched a terrific win over Dominic Thiem in his opener and his confidence was sky high, being cheered by the locals. But Norrie created chances, manufcatiring an incredible 21 break points, and it felt inevitable he was going to be rewarded by pushing Monteiro to his limits.
The second seed, with five breaks of serve prevailed by the skin of his teeth 7-5 7-5.

Dellien Reaches Second Rio Quarterfinal
The last time Hugo Dellien reached the quarterfinal at ATP 500 level, it was in Rio, on his debut appearance at the event back in 2019. And he did so as a qualifier navigating his way to the last eight before bowing out at the hands of Aljaz Bedene.
Dellien has reprised that run, except that he entered the main draw directly with a protected ranking. With a bit of momentum following his fine run to the Cordoba semifinal, the Bolivian has breezed through to the last eight.
Dellien came from a set down to defeat Slovakia’s Alex Molcan 1-6 6-2 6-2 in precisely two hours. The Bolivian will be keen to forget that first set which was a shambles, especially on serve.
But he quickly found his mojo and played a lot better in the second set where he came in full force to break the Molcan serve twice in quick succession towards the end.
Dellien was broken to love at the start of the third set, but it was only a short-lived lead for Molcan whose serve let him down massively when he needed to save himself.
Norrie v Dellien Prediction and Tip
Dellien is playing so well. His return game is clean, dealing with Molcan’s topspin by taking the ball so early and redirecting with depth. But Norrie will ask him plenty of different questions with his variation especially that flat backhand which will be a nuisance for Dellien to deal with. With that said, we fancy the British No. 1 to scale this hurdle.
