The 2019 WTA Indian Well Open has handed out wildcards for the main draw to Amanda Anisimova and Bianca Andreescu among others.

The tournament organisers announced that a total of seven women’s players were afforded wild-cards into the competition along with Laura Siegemund who would be using a protected ranking to make it to the main draw. 12 other qualifiers will also join these players.

Anisimova will be a player to watch out after having won her encounter against Petra Kvitova at the Indian Wells Open, her first-ever top-10 win. She made it to the fourth round there and then sealed her place as a top-notch teenager when she made it to round four at the 2019 Australian Open earlier this year.

On the other hand, Andreescu was a finalist at the Auckland Open and then followed it up with a semi-final place at the Acapulco Open last week. She had earlier won her first career WTA 125 Series tournament in California in January.

Others getting the wildcard include Jennifer Brady, Taylor Townsend, Sachia Vickery, Madison Brengle and Jessica Pegula. Pegula got the entry by accumulating the most points in the Oracle Challenger Series that was played in the lead-up to the Indian Wells Open.

Vickery had an excellent start to the Indian Wells Open last year when she shocked the then-world number three Garbiñe Muguruza in the opening round of the tournament. Vickery tweeted about her wild-card:

“So grateful and humbled to receive a main draw wildcard into @BNPPARIBASOPEN. Very excited for this opportunity after having such a memorable/ life changing week here last year. Thank you for the chance to make new memories.”

The tournament main draw will kick-start from March 4.
