Alex de Minaur v Benjamin Bonzi Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings at the highest level, one in the Davis Cup and seven years ago they had also met for the first time on the Futures circuit. While Bonzi had won that Futures match, de Minaur has won the following three, including their recent meeting in the third round of the 2023 Australian Open.

de Minaur Has No Problems against Ritschard

Alexander Ritschard has never been ranked better than 163rd in the world and had needed a couple of qualifying wins to get through to the main draw of this tournament. In the first round he had carved out a straight-set win over Pablo Andujar but knew things might not be as easy for him in this match against the Aussie.

De Minaur ensured that would remain the case.

He clinched a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ritschard in a match lasting an hour and 19 minutes, advancing to the quarterfinal with three breaks of serves under his belt. He faced just one break-point in the entire encounter winning 83% of his first serve points and 62% of the second serves.

With an opening round bye earlier, de Minaur will now look to make it two wins in a row again, like he had last week in Rotterdam.

Bonzi Finds a Way Past Cressy

Bonzi had carved out a straight-set win over Lucas Van Assche in the first round of the competition but needed to do a lot more to get past his second round opponent in Maxime Cressy.

Having entered the match as a 5/4 underdog, Bonzi came back from a set down to register a 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3 win over his American opponent. The match lasted two hours and 13 minutes.

Enduring 22 aces from Cressy, Bonzi failed to break his opponent in the first set and went down in the tie-breaker that followed. But what he took from the set was Cressy himself hadn’t earned any break-points in the encounter.

That’s exactly how it remained throughout the match, but at the same time Bonzi managed to find past the Cressy serve in both those sets.

This win follows back to back opening round defeats for Bonzi in Montpellier and Rotterdam. Can he take this confidence and ride into the semifinal?

de Minaur v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

De Minaur’s been solid this season and we will have to back him here to win it. Might also turn out to be a straight-set win.
