Albert Ramos Vinolas v Bernabe Zapata Miralles Head to Head

Ramos-Vinolas and Zapata Miralles have never faced off in a previous encounter.

Galan No Match for Ramos Vinolas

Ramos Vinolas is a battle-hardened veteran, especially on clay and he was always going to hold a huge edge coming into his second round match against the otherwise Daniel Elahi Galan. In the end that is exactly how their match turned out to be with the Spaniard clinching a quarterfinal berth with an easy win.

In a match lasting an hour and 21 minutes, Ramos Vinolas won 6-2, 6-4.

Despite the close nature of the second set the overall encounter turned out to be bit of a mismatch as Ramos Vinolas faced just one break-point in the match and sent his opponent’s serve packing three times.

While Galan’s six aces and 68% first serve points won wasn’t too bad it held no candle to Ramos-Vinolas’ 85% first serves won.

Can Ramos Vinolas now take that step forward to make the semifinal, having done exactly that at the Cordoba Open earlier this month too?

Miralles Stuns Cerundolo

A semifinalist at the Argentina Open last week, Miralles stunned the much-vaunted Francisco Cerundolo in the second round on Thursday.

Cerundolo, who was ranked 24th in the world in the not-so-distant past, was a 3/5 favourite coming into the match but stumbled in a three-set encounter.

Miralles took advantage of some poor serving from Cerundolo (he won less than half his first serve points and a mere 24% of his second serve points) to win 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and move into the quarterfinal.

While Miralles himself was broken four times in the match and finished with just 22% of the second serve points won in the second set, he found a way past his opponent’s serve on eight occasions. Which is why an hour and 45 minutes later it was Miralles who had waltzed into the quarterfinal.

Can he now up his ante against the experience of Ramos Vinolas?

Ramos Vinolas v Miralles Prediction and Tip

Interestingly it is Miralles who starts off a bookmakers’ favourite but we will have to go with Ramos Vinolas for his experience. And those tempting 11/10 odds for his win.
