Hubert Hurkacz v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

World no. 11 Hubert Hurkacz saved a match point before beating Mikael Ymer 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) in the quarterfinals in Marseille on Friday.
The top seed, who was also tested in the previous round by Switzerland’s Leandro Riedi, needed close to three hours to eliminate the world no. 69 on Friday.
Hurkacz lost serve in the very first game of the match against Ymer, but responded immediately with a break of his own. He went on to break the Swede once again in the sixth game before sealing the opening set.
Ymer got the solitary break of the second set and then both traded a break in the middle of the third to make things interesting. Eventually it went into the final set tiebreak, where Hurkacz saved a match point before converting his only match point opportunity in the match.
The Pole improved his season record to 8-4. He was 2-2 at the United Cup, made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open and had won one and lost one in Rotterdam last week.
This week, he had a first round bye, but was tested in the round of 16 by Riedi. The latter had taken the opening set, but Hurkacz rebounded by getting the only break of the second set and a double break in the final set.
The 2021 Wimbledon semifinalist has struck a combined 31 aces in his two matches in Marseille. A win on Saturday will take Hurkacz into his seventh tour-level final. While he won the first five of his finals, he lost his last final at the Canadian Masters last year. Pablo Carreno Busta had won that match in three sets.

Bublik Saves Two MPs Against Dimitrov
Alexander Bublik had come into the tournament after having lost all eight of his matches in 2023. However, he struck form this week, winning three matches in a row as a result of which he is now into the semifinal of the tournament.
Bublik’s most recent win came over Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinal on Friday. The Kazakh saved two match points in the final set tiebreak, before clinching the two-hour and 20-minute contest 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6).
This was the second three-setter that Bublik had won this week. Earlier, he had begun his campaign by rallying past Filip Krajinovic 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.
Bublik had a much easier second round outing, beating Grégoire Barrère 6-4, 6-2.
The 25-year-old world no. 50 was a semifinalist in Marseille in his previous attempt as well. Can he make it to the final this year?
Bublik has featured in seven finals so far at the tour-level, but his only win came at the Montpellier Open last year. He had reached two more finals in 2022 only to finish runners-up on both the occasions.
