Denis Shapovalov v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these players at the highest level – at the 2019 Winston-Salem Open and 2019 Japan Open – and both were won by Shapovalov. They had earlier faced off on the Futures circuit too in 2016 and Shapovalov had won that too.

Shapovalov 4-4 This Season
When Shapovalov has looked good on court, there is very little stopping him. Like was the case when he reached the quarterfinal of the Adelaide International or when he made it past Dusan Lajovic and Taro Daniel to make it to the third round of the Australian Open.
Unfortunately for Shapovalov, the kind of consistency that one associates with a top-10 player – which he once was – has eluded him in recent times.
In fact, he enters this tournament on the back of three successive defeats.
At the Australian Open, rather expectedly, he was sent out by Novak Djokovic. In Dallas, the tournament he next played, Shapovalov was shocked by Wu Yibing despite being 2/5 to win it but little would he have known at that stage that his opponent would go on to win the title.
And more recently, Shapovalov fell in three sets to Michael Mmoh, again in the opening round of the Delray Beach Open.
With a 4-4 win-loss record, Shapovalov now faces the hard-working and 30th-ranked Kecmanovic and would know it won’t be easy.

Kecmanovic Reverses Three-Match Losing Streak with Delray Beach Final
Much like Shapovalov, Kecmanovic also had had a struggle on his hands when he lost three ATP matches in a row. This included a quarterfinal ouster at the Adelaide International 2, a first round loss at the Australian Open and another opening defeat in Dallas.
At two of those three matches, Kecmanovic was a 3/10 favourite but still managed to muff it up.
What would give him confidence coming into this one in Acapulco is the manner in which he turned things around in Delray Beach. After receiving a first round bye, the Serb overcame Nuno Borges, Marcos Giron and Radu Albot to storm into the title-decider.
And while Taylor Fritz squeaked past Kecmanovic, it wasn’t a straightforward result for the American. It was his first final appearance since September 2020, underlining how big an event it was for Kecmanovic.
Would that, however, be enough for the world number 30 coming into this difficult opener?
Shapovalov v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip
It’s a tough call to make given their individual pedigrees and recent form. Shapovalov is a better player on this surface, Kecmanovic has better momentum.
We reckon we could see a third set in this.
