Taylor Fritz v John Isner Head to Head
There have been five previous meetings between these two and Fritz leads 4-1. Isner’s only win came in their latest meeting in Atlanta in 2021 where he defeated Fritz in the semis and went on to win the title.

Fritz Coming off Delray Beach Open Title
It’s been a season to remember for Fritz so far who will kick-start this new week on the back of a title win and a career-best ranking of fifth in the world.
Fritz, who had earlier helped USA to lift the United Cup, did not have the most ideal result at the Australian Open. He would have loved to do a lot better than a second round exit there at the hands of Alexei Popyrin.
Since then, however, Fritz has won six of the seven matches he’s played which includes a title win at the Delray Beach Open. The American was also at the receiving end of a shock semifinal exit at the Dallas Open before that but it was one of those weeks in which the little-known Wu Yibing made every opponent pay.
He will now face a player who he would have ideally liked to take on at the semifinal or final stage – had he defeated Yibing, he would have met Isner in the final – making this one of the more challenging opening round encounters.

Isner Turns Things Around at Dallas
Isner’s start to tennis in 2023 had been anything but exemplary.
A first round exit to Gregoire Barrere at the Auckland Open could have been put down to rustiness but another opening loss at the Australian Open to Adrian Mannarino would have hurt.
Especially to a player who has been a top-15 player for a large portion of his career.
Which is also why Isner’s performance at the Dallas Open would have come as a relief.
Sure he did not win the title but ending up runner-up after those successive first round losses would have warmed his heart. Especially given that Isner did overcome the in-form JJ Wolf in the semifinal.
Coming up against Fritz, Isner will know he hasn’t got anything to lose as an underdog and that the pressure will squarely be on his opponent’s shoulders. That’s how he would probably want to go into the match and strike when he has the opportunity.
Fritz v Isner Prediction and Tip
There won’t be too much between the two players with tie-breakers expected to decide the winner. The player who plays the crucial points better will hold a very slight edge.
