Alejandro Tabilo v Jaume Munar Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the two 25 year olds.

Tabilo Reached Santiago Semi-Final Last Year

Tabilo has been granted a wildcard into his home event.

He will have good memories of this tournament from a year ago – also given a wildcard then, he went all the way to the semi-finals, beating the top seed Cristian Garin in the process.

And that came just weeks after he had reached his first ATP final, losing to the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets in Cordoba.

All that helped Tabilo break into the top 100 for the first time, and he would peak at 68 in July, becoming the Chilean number one.

However, he was not able to sustain that form in the second half of the season, and 2023 has largely been a disappointment for him so far.

He failed to qualify for the Australian Open, and, after back to back quarter-finals on the Challenger tour, his return to Cordoba ended in first round failure.

Last week Tabilo was beaten in the second round of qualifying for Rio by fellow Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera.

Munar Has Only Won Once Since October

Two years ago Munar finished runners-up in the doubles in Chile with partner Federico Delbonis, and, the following month, he would reach his only senior singles final to date, beat on home soil in Andalucía.

Munar’s successes since then have been limited to the Challenger tour, where he won two titles in 2022, both of them on clay.

However, he has only won once since reaching the second round of the European Open in Antwerp back in October.

That came in the first round of the Buenos Aires Open where Muanr defeated the local man Guido Pella, before losing to another Argentine, Francisco Cerundulo.

Apart from that, it has been a string of first round defeats, a sequence that continued in Rio last week, where he was beaten in straight sets by fellow Spaniard Bernabe Zapata-Mirales.

Tabilo v Munar Prediction and Tip

As the higher ranked player, Munar should start favourite, but he is in a sustained run of poor form right now. Tabilo too, has been struggling, but, he is back on home turf, and playing in a tournament where he reached the semi-finals last year, that might be enough to inspire him again.
