Tommy Paul v Emilio Gomez Head to Head

They played two times so far and both have won one match. Both matches happened in 2019 with Gomez winning on clay and Paul winning on hard courts.

Paul Hunting Top 20 Debut

Tommy Paul is on the verge of making his top 20 debut after a really strong start this year. His record so far is 8-3 with a semi-final appearance at the Australian Open. His tennis since then remained pretty stable as he won a match in the Davis Cup.

He then won a match in Delray Beach but suffered a shocking defeat to Radu Albot. It was a match he should have won but that’s just Tommy Paul. He will always have those crazy performances but also one like that where he losses to a player he should never lose.

It’s just the type of tennis that he plays – very aggressive and risky. Most of the time it works but every once in a while he starts missing badly and never recovers.

Keep that in mind when you play him and you’ll be fine. Acapulco has been a good spot for him as he made the quarter-final so he should be good int his R1 matchup.

Gomez Playing Solid Tennis

Emilio Gomez has played a lot of tennis so far this year as he already has 14 matches under his belt. The record is 8-6 which is pretty solid. Last week, Gomez was in Monterrey and he lost to Bernard Tomic in three sets which is an okay loss but could have certainly been a win.

Before that, he was in Delray Beach where he scored a win over Wu which was impressive. He then lost to Taylor Fritz which is again an okay loss. Gomez is a very aggressive player who likes to attack from the baseline but his gme is also prone to errors.

In a way his game and the game of his opponents are very similar it’s just that Paul is much better at it. Gomez has a powerful serve which will be crucial in setting up some easy points in this one and it could also make the match more interesting.

Overall he’s got a decent game but unlikely to be able to challenge seriously.

Paul v Gomez Prediction and Tip

Tommy Paul is the better player who won their most recent clash and he’s likely to do that again. Back him to get the win but the over might happen too.
