Frances Tiafoe v Feliciano Lopez Head to Head
They have faced off once before this, with Lopez winning their Antwerp Open tie in 2018.

It took Tiafoe an hour and 45 minutes alright but in the end, found a way to come through against a player who has troubled a few this season. Yoshihito Nishioka had come into the match on the back of an 8-3 win-loss record for the year which included a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open as well.
Tiafoe, however, survived an early break of serve in the first set to come back and win 7-6 (6), 6-4, shrugging off an early exit at the Dallas Open in the last tournament he had played.
Having lost his very first serve in the encounter, Tiafoe never faced another break-point in the encounter. In turn he broke Nishioka in the next game itself and from that point onward held his side of the end up.
The first set went into the tie-breaker before Tiafoe found a way to break Nishioka late in the second set to find a way to win it.
Things could get easier in the second round given what’s gone about for his opponent.

Lopez Returns to Competitive Tennis with a Win
Counting all of stages of competitions that Lopez played at in 2022, he managed just one win from 16 matches in the entire season. And he didn’t return to tennis this year till the end of February.
All of this has meant that the 41-year-old and former world number 12 has fallen to 1035th on the ATP charts. Not surprisingly either given his overall form over the past few years has slowly waned away.
Which is also why it was no surprise that Lopez began his match against Christopher Eubanks as a 41/10 outsider to win it. And that’s exactly what he did, pulling out the proverbial rabbit out of his experienced hat.
Lopez came through 7-6 (3), 6-4 to make it to the second round where he will face a far tougher challenge but for now he will bask in the glory of having equalled the total number of wins he had in the whole of last season.

Tiafoe should not have a lot of trouble here and can be expected to come through in straight sets.
