Bjorklund Stuns Parks
Bjorklund was nearly 2/1 coming into her opening round encounter against Alycia Parks and yet won in a fighting three-setter to register just her second victory of the season.
Having earlier made it to the second round at the Hua Hin Open this season, Bjorklund came away a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 winner despite dropping her serve twice. This was after she looked to have frittered away an early break of serve with Parks coming back and levelling things out at four games apiece in the opening set.
The Swede broke again to win the first set but then lost her serve once in the second.
In the decider, Bjorklund came through a fighting second game on her serve when she saved three break-points before getting that one crucial break in the seventh game that was enough to see her through.
She will think she has a chance here to make it through to a rare quarterfinal.
